Have you embraced cloud computing for your practice? Are you moving your clients to the cloud? We have embraced the cloud! We have incorporated a bill pay program as part of our accounting service. We are moving our payroll cli- ents, gently, to the cloud by offering a completely paper- less payroll service. Daniel T. Moore CPA — 35 Owner, D.T. Moore & Company Salem, Ohio How mobile are you regard- ing your work? How have mobile devices and apps impacted your productivity and work-life balance? troubleshoot any problems as they arise and stay on top of email. The challenge of being mobile is knowing when to turn it off and take some personal time. Hobbies: I enjoy traveling, sailing, working out, running and cooking. I try my best to maintain a healthy work- life balance, especially in the months after tax season! I enjoy travelling both professionally and for recreation, and so I consider myself very mobile. I take my iPhone and iPad with me on all trips. Social media has been a helpful marketing tool for our business. Our presence on various social media sites as well as our use of email marketing allows us to communicate with clients and the commu- nity in a new way. Rather than our clients thinking of us as a simply a tax prepara- tions service, social media tools help us educate the community about the services we offer, the expertise of our staff and the importance of local financial issues such as the recent GM retirement buyouts and oil and gas leasing. What tips on social media do you think are essential, but perhaps missed by professionals? I think the biggest key to successful so- cial media efforts is the ability to know your audience. While some firms may be targeted at professionals, others may need to reach out to individual tax pay- ers. Once you know your audience, you can really tailor the information you share. For example, my business operates out of a small town where personal relation- ships and dedication to the community are priorities. Therefore, we strive to not only provide useful financial information, but we also keep our friends and clients informed on our community involvement. What are some ways your firm has gone "paperless" and/or "green" in the last few years? While D.T. Moore & Company has been working to become more environmentally friendly for several years, this year was the first in which we transitioned to a "paper- less" system for preparing tax returns. Rather than keeping or copying clients' tax documents, these documents as well as the final tax returns were stored in File Cabinet CS for future reference. Most clients did receive hard copies of their re- turns, but we encouraged as many clients as possible to receive secure PDF documents via email, and we hope to continue this trend. NOT including your current em- ployer, what company do you most admire and why? I admire RootWorks for their firm support and network- ing resources. I also ad- mire Wegmans for their innovative approach to all aspects of gro- cery shopping. 14 | 2012 CPA Practice Advisor 40 Under 40 BACK TO PAGE 4 8618002 8618002
