How is cloud computing changing the accounting profession, and how con- cerned are you with the security issues related to cloud computing? Bryan Hoeft 37 Web Marketing Director, Thomson Reuters Dexter, Michigan I believe cloud computing has the po- tential to redefine best practices within the profession, change the IT needs of a firm, and influence the work/life balance of staff. Partnering with a vendor that has experience and processes to ensure the security and integrity of your data is key. Have you found business success via social media, either via recognizable ROI, new customers, marketing or networking? Yes, most definitely. I have been in a great position to step back and see how firms are utilizing it. Some firms have had more success than others, but the social media landscape continues to evolve and offers opportunities for those ready to embrace it. What tips on social media do you think are essential, but perhaps missed by professionals? Conversations about your firm are hap- pening whether you are participating in social media or not. You need to be en- gaged in those social media channels so that you are aware, and can contribute, to the conversation. Knowledge is power and you need to know what is being said. What ONE piece of technol- ogy could you absolutely not live without? My smart phone – The pure convenience of the device makes it so powerful. Having access to so much information at your fingertips is a game changer. NOT including your current employer, what company do you most admire and why? It might be cliché, but Apple. I have been a fan of them for a long time. Yes, they have a strong financial record, but I think their go-to-market strategies and ap- proach to shaping culture are fascinating. What sports team/championship event do you absolutely refuse to miss? I do block off my Saturdays in the fall for 9 | 2012 CPA Practice Advisor 40 Under 40 BACK TO PAGE 3 college football – specifically the Univer- sity of Michigan Football team. I grew up watching them play and just love being part of that atmosphere of tradition and excellence. What cell phone do you carry/use? iPhone. Do you have a tablet? iPad. What is your favorite professional mo- bile app, and why? Wow, impossible to choose just one. I really like the Twitter App, Zite, Flipboard and the Thomson Reuters ARNE Mobile App. I follow a variety of trade pubs, tax and accounting firms, and professionals and love the variety of information I get from them. How many monitors do you have on your desk? Three: one 27-inch flanked by two 19-inch monitors. Do you have children? If so, how many, and what ages? Two children: An eight-year-old son and five-year-old daughter.
