Kim Hogan, ECMp, CAPTUREp — 28 (continued) side, I've made progress on my "must see" list by checking off The Unforgiven, Heat, The Departed and Waiting for Guffman. I'm still laughing from The Hangover 2, and finally caught my first Woody Allen film, Midnight in Paris, this summer, too. As for books, I'm in the middle of Ian McEwan's "Atonement" and also working through "Social Media Strategies for Professionals and their Firms" by Michelle Golden. It's taking me a while since I can't seem to get too far before I have to stop and implement something before moving on to the next section. My evenings these days often include DVR'd episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Larry Sanders Show and Seinfeld reruns. Other than SMS on your cell phone, what is your favorite way to IM with your friends and family? I'm a big Skyper! My two year-old nephew lives in Houston, and it's often way too long in-between visits. Thanks Thomas Fantin, CPA.CITP — 34 Manager, SS&G; Financial Services, Inc. SS&G; has been a paperless firm since 2005. Within the past two years, we have implemented a "green" initia- tive, which has been very successful. Our Akron office has recycled over 3,000 lbs. of paper in the first quarter of 2011 alone. What pitfalls or what unwritten rules of social net- working etiquette exist, which are frequently missed by others in the profession? People have forgotten how to use proper punctuation and correct spelling when social networking. What ONE piece of technology could you absolutely not live without? The Internet. It has revolutionized the way we obtain information and communicate with others. How is cloud computing changing the accounting profession, and how concerned are you with the security issues related to cloud computing? Cloud computing is significantly changing the accounting profession by helping accountants step outside of their offices and become more mobile in assisting clients. Security issues will always be present whenever you are dealing with private financial information and other sensitive data, which is why being diligent and addressing the latest vulner- ability threats is extremely important. NOT including your current employer, what company do you most admire and why? Google is an admirable company due to its constant evolving to stay on the cutting edge of technology through both search engine advance- ments and innovations in the mobile market. Do you foresee the majority of firms still implementing servers for the majority of their computing in their offices five years from now or do you think they will be outsourcing this component to vendors who specialize in this area? Yes, I think there are many Do you embrace cloud computing? Yes, I fully embrace the cloud computing concept and use Gmail and Google Docs on a regular basis. firms that still prefer to host their own servers as an added security/comfort measure for their clients. Are you using social networking (such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Google+) as a marketing tool for your practice … or do you use such sites for personal use only? Have you gained any clients or seen other demonstrable benefits from the use of social networking? The firm I work for uses Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook, all as marketing tools. I use both LinkedIn and Facebook for personal use to keep in touch with friends and promoting the band I play in. Some of the benefits of using such networking tools for business have been keeping followers up-to-date on current issues affecting their busi- nesses and personal finances. What sports team/championship event do you absolutely refuse to miss? The University of Michigan (football) and University of Akron (soccer, football, and basketball). TV Shows: Burn Notice and Royal Pains. Cell phone: I use a Motorola Droid X. What is your favorite smartphone or tablet app? Key Ring is my favorite app, as it helps eliminate the number of rewards/savings cards I have to carry. Monitors on your desk? Two. Other than SMS on your cell phone, what is your favorite way to IM with your friends and family? I do not typically IM with friends and family other than by SMS means. to Skype, Aunt Kimmie can at least get video hugs and kisses. Additionally, I've found that the tool comes in very handy when traveling and/or doing business internationally. How many monitors do you have on your desk? It all depends on where I am, which is hardly ever a desk. I definitely like to spread out, though. Right now, I'm working off two laptops (a Fujitsu LifeBook and a MacBook Pro), an iPad and my iPhone (which I tend to use quite a bit for Twitter). Lately I've been traveling with a Field Monitor Pro from Mobile Monitor Tech- nologies so, no matter where I go, I don't have to give up my extra screen. 41 Back to Contents Page 3
