What are some ways your firm has gone "paperless" and/or "green" in the last few years? Anthony J. Nitti CPA, MST — 37 Partner, WithumSmith+Brown Aspen, Colorado WithumSmith+Brown has made a substan- tial investment in its firm-wide technology; we promote a "paperless environment" that allows us to send information elec- tronically versus traditional mail. As such, we have es- tablished a safe, secure client portal on our website, enabling clients to access whatever documents they need electronically. Have you embraced cloud computing for your practice? Are you moving your clients to the cloud? Embrace it? We could not live or operate our practice without it. At WS+B, we run a majority of our mission critical applications on the cloud and have done so for years. As for our clients? Absolutely. Many of our clients see how our partners and staff use the cloud to manage their day-to-day Blog: www.double-taxation.com LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/tony-nitti/2a/453/ab6 Education: Master's in Taxation, University of Denver; Bachelor of Science in Accounting, The Col- lege of New Jersey Professional Associations/Memberships: Member of AICPA, NJCPA, COCPA workload and they ask for our help in tak- ing their businesses to the cloud as well. How mobile are you regarding your work? How have mobile devices and apps impacted your productivity and work-life balance? Hobbies: Skiing, mountaineering and mountain biking As someone who long sought the ideal work-life balance before finding it in Aspen, I'm acutely aware of just how fortunate I am for the mobility afforded me by my mobile phone. Truth be told, if I'm not in the office or with my family, I'm usu- ally playing in the mountains, either on a pair of skis or a mountain bike saddle. As recently as a decade ago, those excur- sions would have put me temporarily out of touch with my clients and coworkers, a sacrifice CPAs can ill afford. Today, mobile technology allows me to pursue the things I love without having to sacrifice client service. What ONE piece of technology could you absolutely not live without? You mean aside from the titanium clip that was inserted into my brain to repair an an- eurysm? Then I'd have to say my laptop. I love to read and write, and my laptop allows me to do both. What sports team/championship event do you absolutely refuse to miss? The Winter X Games are held a long three-iron from my office, so that may seem like the natural choice. But the happiest moments of my childhood were 6 | 2012 CPA Practice Advisor 40 Under 40 BACK TO PAGE 3 spent sharing sports-driven traditions with my father, and chief among them was the Saturday night semifinals of the NCAA Final Four. On more than one occasion, I've flown across the country to surprise my dad for those two games, so that's the clear choice for me. NOT including your current employer, what company do you most admire and why? Facebook. Any company that can create a billion-dollar empire from a mission plan built upon satisfying people's insatiable desire to share baby pictures and movie quotes on the internet is pure genius in my book. What cell phone do you carry/use? I've got a Blackberry Bold now, but that's only because my office isn't pager friendly. The newer generation may view a Black- berry as the technological equivalent of the cell phone Zach Morris used in the fourth season of "Saved by the Bell," but it serves my purposes nicely. Do you have a tablet? I purchased an iPad in May, but it's since been commandeered by my three-year old boy, and now simply serves to run The Backyardigans on a continuous loop. It's a good thing that show is the pinnacle of children's programming.
