Have you embraced cloud computing for your practice? Are you moving your clients to the cloud? Newhouse Cara R. CPA — 37 Senior Accountant, Lohman Accounting Lewiston, Idaho We have just begun embracing cloud computing in our practice. As a public accounting firm in a small rural area, it is taking us some time to convince our cli- ents that they don't need to walk into the office to deliver their tax return documents or weekly payroll. We have cur- rently moved several of our clients to QuickBooks Online and we also use our client portal to share documents. We are currently seeking out our options of moving our paperless office to the cloud. Hobbies: ing profession. It is enabling us as CPAs to have continual contact with our clients as well as have the ability to work from outside the office. This is enabling us as a small firm to have real-time interaction with our clients. As trendy as cloud com- puting has become, we do have to look at the security concerns such as the confidentiality and data security of our clients. We need to ask ourselves, "If my boss saw this, or other professionals in the town, would they approve?" But at the same time, we also need to remember to not lose your own personality. Personality sells on social media websites. People will follow those that say witty and fun comments as well as make great professional comments. What ONE piece of technology could you absolutely not live without? My iPhone! It has my business apps, personal apps, and my calendar to keep me going. As a professional and mom of two, I need my phone to keep everyone's schedules straight! I also love the camera on this phone! It takes clear pictures of documents to send clients and it is es- pecially useful in capturing photos and videos of my children. NOT including your current employer, what company do you most admire and why? I have a good personal friend that works at Microsoft and I admire her choice to work for a company that values a culture of wellness and balance. They invest in their employees and provide learning and development while giving back to the community and causes that their employ- ees care most about. What sports team/championship event do you absolutely refuse to miss? There is nothing like a Saturday Cougar Football Game in Pullman, Washington! My husband is an avid soccer lover which means soccer is always on at our house. We would never miss a World Cup! Do you have a tablet? Yes, the iPad. It works great for business meetings and it keeps the kids quiet with games and movies for those long road trips to see the grandparents. How many monitors do you have on your desk? Three monitors. It is extremely useful when you are paperless during tax season; tax software on one, client documents on another, and QuickBooks on the third. 11 | 2012 CPA Practice Advisor 40 Under 40 BACK TO PAGE 4
